It’s a tradition in my family that the birthday person offer some words of wisdom, maybe about something they have learned or struggled with in the past year.
Okay, it’s not a tradition yet because my dad’s the only one who has done it (up till now…), but I offered words of wisdom last year and I mean to make it a tradition!
This past year has taught me a lot about myself and it has been quite a challenging, exciting, full, and ultimately rewarding year. A brief recap: a full school year here in Sniatyn, Ukraine; travel; visits from friends & family; an awesome new boyfriend; deaths of two prominent educational directors in Sniatyn; successful implementation of a grant; a really slow marathon; a speedier half marathon; integrating into my community…the list goes on.
Now, without further ado, here are my words of (am-I-old-enough-to-be-wise?) wisdom:
Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and take a (reasonable) risk. It will probably be challenging and terrifying, but if it feels right, it probably is (and you should go for it).
I wish you all another year of taking reasonable risks and challenging yourselves.
